Since the announcement that Madonna would be the halftime performer at this year’s Super Bowl , there have been mixed opinions. Some people felt like she was too old, some felt like she was the perfect choice, and others didn’t have an opinion at all. Well after she officially took the stage last night in front of over 150 million viewers, I can say that 95% of the 150 million were on the same page.
Dressed as an Egyptian warrior princess, Madonna made her entrance as she was carried by dozens of gladiators before singing her 1990 hit “Vogue.” If you’re a Britney Spears fan, the entrance may have reminded you of the “ Gimme More ” performance from last year’s Femme Fatale Tour — just a little bit. Madonna then performed a new version of “Music,” which was remixed with LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know It .”
Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. (who flipped off the camera) then joined her to perform their new song “Give Me All Your Luvin,” which was released Friday — all before bringing out a band, a choir, and Cee Lo Green to perform “Open Your Heart” and ending with “Like a Prayer.”
The performance was absolutley amazing, receiving an average of 8,000 tweets per second for five minutes. I’m still shaking and my adrenaline is rushing like a faucet on full blast. Madonna proved that she can not only move like Gaga and Beyoncé , but that she is indeed the Queen of Pop music. She’s managed to reinvent herself with every album, still sells out tours , and has the gays at her side. This marks the official beginning of the MDNA era. Take a look at the performance below:
