Drake’s ‘Nothing Was the Same’ Crosses One Million Mark After Five Weeks

Drake, studio, Nothing Was The Same

I have some great news for you Drake fans, and even better news for you non-Drake fans/supporters out there today.

In its fifth week of being released, yes count them FIFTH week of being released, Drake’s third studio album, Nothing Was the Same has hit the one million copies mark .

This week, the album sold a total of 38,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Thar was just the right amount to give the album a total of 1,029,000 copies sold in the United States.

The album first hit the Billboard 200 Albums chart on the week of October 12, 2013 with 658,000 copies in its first week, earning it a spot at #1.

Among all R&B/hip-hop albums, Justin Timberlake ‘s The 20/20 Experience (which I consider a pop album, but hey, there are R&B and hip-hop influenced songs on their too so why not?) is the only 2013 title to outsell Nothing Was the Same in its first week with 968,000 copies.

Drake’s album, however, is the fastest rap set to reach one million units this year (so far), Jay-Z ‘s Magna Carta… Holy Grail previously held the honor at 12 weeks, while the year’s two other million-selling rap albums took considerably longer: Kendrick Lamar ‘s good kid, m.A.A.d city (43 weeks) and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis The Heist (46 weeks).

In support of the album, Drake is currently on the road performing these hits, among countless others in his already deep catalog, headlining Would You Like a Tour? tour, which ends its North American dates on December 18th in Philadelphia, while the European leg will run throughout March.
