Described as “a chaotic, digitally-degraded thunderstorm of hip-hop and bhangra; punk and pop; spitfire raps and thorny wordplay” by BBC News’ Mark Savage , Matangi released today, November 5th following pressure on Interscope from M.I.A. who threatened to leak it this summer.

Serving as the outspoken artist’s fourth studio album, it’s preceded by several singles and a Matangi Mix for Kenzo , an eight-minute compilation of songs from the album for Kenzo ‘s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection show at Paris Fashion Week.

“Bad Girls” was released January 31, 2012 as an extended re-work from her 2011 Vicki Leekx mixtape. The controversial music video featured Arab women driving in protest of Saudi Arabia’s driving ban, for which there is still contention .

Tackling global political oppression, “Bring the Noize” was released June 18, 2013 and its music video dropped June 24, 2013.

“Come Walk with Me” released September 3, 2013 followed by “Y.A.L.A.” ( “You Always Live Again” ), which released October 22, 2013, and has been considered a response to Drake ‘s now overused slogan, “Y.O.L.O.” ( “You Only Live Once” ).

Matangi features production by Danja, Hit-Boy, Doc McKinney, The Partysquad, K. Roosevelt, So Japan, Surkin, Switch , and M.I.A. herself. See information for her L.A. shows below.
