Women directors may have found success in indie and documentary films but where are they in Hollywood?
An infographic by streaming movie service Fandor shows that while women directors made up 23.9% of filmmakers at the Sundance Film Festival between 2002 and 2012, only 4.4% have made it into the top 100 box office over the decade.
There are 15.24 male director for every female. And in 2011, the number of female directors in Hollywood dropped to 5% from 7% in 2010 and 9% in 2009, which leads us to ask, “what is going on?”
Ultimately, the graphic shows a need for women filmmakers to find better exposure and perhaps seek alternative ways of distribution. Check it out below.
