Charlie Murphy & John Witherspoon Cast in Aaron McGruder’s ‘Black Jesus’ Series on Adult Swim

With Aaron McGruder ‘s Boondocks set to return to Adult Swim for a fourth season on April 21st, the writer/cartoonist is planning to bring yet another series to the network entitled, Black Jesus .

The live-action comedy centers on Jesus, played by Gerald “Slink” Johnson ( Grand Theft Auto V ), who lives in present-day Compton, California, “where he’s on a mission to spread love throughout the neighborhood with the help of a small, but loyal group of followers.”

The cast also includes Charlie Murphy ( Are We There Yet ), Corey Holcomb ( The Cleveland Show ) and John Witherspoon ( The Boondocks / The First Family ), Kali Hawk ( Couples Retreat ), and Andra Fuller ( L.A. Complex ).

The show will be executive-produced by Aaron through his 5 Mutts Productions , along with writer/director Mike Clattenberg ( Trailer Park Boys ) and LEG Media ’s Norman Aladjem and John Bravakis .

Production for the series has begun in Los Angeles and it will premiere later in 2014.
