Is there anything Idris Elba can’t do? Well as the first man to appear by himself of the cover of Maxim, the acclaimed London-born actor admits he can’t sit still. And that is undeniable. Between his work on screen and in music (his Nelson Mandela-inspired album, mi Mandela and its accompanying documentary) he’s been a very busy man.
It’s only right then that the 42-year-old fronts Maxim’s September 2015 “LEGIT” issue, which also features A$AP Rocky, Gay Talese, and Fetty Wap.
“We’ve never in U.S. Maxim history had a man on the cover solo,” said Maxim editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear. “This is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more bad-ass than Idris.”
Inside, Idris talks about music, sex, auto racing, and the James Bond role that may never happen because we won’t shut up about it.
“If I were the Bond producers and everyone was pointing me toward one actor, what’s the surprise in that? Honestly, it’s one of those things that if it should happen, it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy; it would be the will of a nation,” he said.
Idris’ next starring role will be the frighteningly charismatic commandant of an African child army in Cary Fukunaga‘s Beasts of No Nation, out October 16, 2015.
