This summer, Ava DuVernay ‘s award-winning drama Middle of Nowhere made its TV premiere on BET, which caused a lot of people to inquire when the 2012 film would be available on DVD and VOD, if ever.

You all will be happy to know that a date has finally been set: January 13th, 2015 via Lionsgate and Codeblack Films.

Starring Emayatzy Corinealdi ( Addicted ), Omari Hardwick ( Power ), David Oyelowo ( The Butler ) and Lorraine Toussaint ( Orange Is The New Black ), the film follows Ruby (Emayatzy), a promising medical school student who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after her husband Derek (Omari) is sentenced to eight years in prison.

Written, directed, and produced by Ava, the independent feature won the Directing Award for U.S. Dramatic Film at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival .

That same year, it was distributed as a limited theater release by AFFRM (African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement) and Participant Media.

The film did become available on Netflix in August 2014, but apparently not for streaming customers.

The forthcoming DVD release is expected to include audio commentary with Ava and Emayatzy.
