Rick Famuyiwa–known for The Wood (1999), Brown Sugar (2002), Our Family Wedding (2010) and last summer’s smash indie hit DOPE (2015)–will direct Warner Bros’ The Flash, set for release on March 16, 2018.

Starring Ezra Miller (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them / Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) as the DC Comics superhero, The Flash (2018) was written by Seth Grahame-Smith based on a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (22 Jump Street), a duo Famuyiwa worked with previously on the FOX series remake Greatest American Hero. Smith was going to direct the film himself but bowed out over creative differences. Miller will also appear in The Justice League Part One.

Created by writer Robert Kanigher and penciler Carmine Infantino, The Flash aka “The Fastest Man Alive” first appeared in DC Comics’ Showcase #4 (October 1956).

While working in his lab during a storm one night, a bolt of lightning strikes a tray of chemicals soaking police scientist Barry Allen with its contents. Now able to move at super-speed, Barry becomes The Flash protecting Central City from the threats it faces.

Flash is portrayed by Grant Gustin in The CW’s eponymously named series, which was renewed for a third season in March 2016.

Famuiywa is currently receiving strong Emmy buzz for directing HBO’s Confirmation, the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas drama starring Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierce.
