Watch: Laura Mvula Finds Her Wings in Stunning “Overcome” Video

British soul singer-songwriter Laura Mvula recently unveiled a magnificent visual for her new triumph-anthem, Overcome .”

“When your heart is broken down / And your head don’t reach the sky / Take your broken wings and fly,” her voice echoes before the beat drops and reveals the funky collab with legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers .

Each scene of the Alex Southam -directed clip serves as a series of active paintings with gold accents and beautiful brown bodies in motion.

“Overcome is what I think joy feels like – eventually,” Mvula shared with the video release. “We’re all going through something but even ‘the caged bird sings of freedom.’”

The song is the lead single from Mvula’s sophomore studio album titled The Dreaming Room , out May 6, 2016 via RCA.

She performed the song for the first time on The Graham Norton Show in January.

Director Southam also helmed the video for Mvula’s debut single She ,” from her first album Sing to the Moon (2013). The LP went gold in the UK where it peaked at #9.
