Each scene of the Alex Southam-directed clip serves as a series of active paintings with gold accents and beautiful brown bodies in motion.
“Overcome is what I think joy feels like – eventually,” Mvula shared with the video release. “We’re all going through something but even ‘the caged bird sings of freedom.’”
The song is the lead single from Mvula’s sophomore studio album titled The Dreaming Room, out May 6, 2016 via RCA.
She performed the song for the first time on The Graham Norton Show in January.
