Cher Speaks on New Album ‘Closer To The Truth,’ Shares Release Date

Last night, millions of people around the world tuned into NBC’s season 3 finale of the hit show The Voice to see who would win this year’s competition, but my grandmother and I simply tuned in because Empress Cher was performing her new song “ Woman’s World .”

Produced and co-written by Paul Oakenfold , the electro-pop song serves as the official lead single from the diva’s upcoming 26th (yes people, 26th) studio album Closer to the Truth , which is set to be released on September 24, 2013.

Though the song premiered on November 22, 2012 on streaming websites, the single’s official release date was yesterday, June 18, 2013.

Today, Billboard interviewed the Pop icon , where she spoke about the music we can expect to hear on the album, who she’s worked with and much more.

On the album coming together:

“Woman’s World with Paul Oakenfold was the album’s starting point. Then P!nk gave me a beautiful song, then Mark (Taylor) , the man who produced the Believe album, came up with four great songs. There was a beautiful country song and a song a friend of mine and I wrote for ‘Interview with a Vampire’ that got turned down.”

On what we can expect on the new record:

“”It’s very eclectic, you know. The songs are good songs that just happen to be together.I did a couple things on this album, ventured into places that I haven’t gone and I really enjoyed that. I took some chances on this album and when it turned out to be good, I was pleased.”

On her feelings before last night’s performance:

“It’s very exciting, makes you feel elated. I like being on it, but I don’t like going on it.”

And despite having done multiple legs of her Living Proof: The Farewell Tour , which ran from June 14, 2002 to April 30, 2005, as well as her stint at the Colosseum in Las Vegas from May 6, 2008 to February 5, 2011, Cher teased at a new tour by stating: “We’re talking about it.”
