Alright people. It’s almost here — an awards show that mostly only people of color watch and wait for every year. Yes, the 2013 BET Awards are right around the corner and it looks like the line-up is getting more and more star studded… or semi star studded.
Was that entire sentence full of shade and catty comments? Of course it was, but what are you going to do about it?
It has been announced that Mariah Carey, India.Arie, Ciara, and Nicki Minaj are the recent artists set to hit the stage during the live June 20th broadcast.
The four women join previously announced performers Chris Brown, Miguel, R. Kelly, and Kendrick Lamar, who were announced just a few weeks ago.
This year’s show will find Chris Tucker serving as the host of the event.
R&B singer and part-time rapper Drake leads with a total of 12 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz follow with 8 nominations between them each (are they sure this isn’t the Hip-hop Awards?).
Presenters for the show, so far include Paula Patton, LaLa Anthony, Angela Bassett, and Gabrielle Union, and Charlie Wilson will receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Be sure to stay posted as more artists, actors, athletes who will make appearances one way or another on R&B, gospel, and hip-hop music’s biggest nights.
