Featuring DC Comics supervillains, the film also stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Dr. Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Scott Eastwood as Steve Trevor, and Common in an unknown role.
There may also be cameos from Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg as Batman and Lex Luthor, respectively.
Also written by David Ayer, the film’s story follows a group imprisoned anti-heroes who perform high-risk missions for the U.S. Government in exchange for commuted sentences. The group operates out of Belle Reve Penitentiary, under the directorship of Dr. Waller.
The film is produced by Richard Suckle, Charles Roven , and Colin Wilson for DC Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment.
Shooting in Toronto began in April 2015 and it is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016 via Warner Bros.
The modern Suicide Squad aka Task Force X is the second version, created by comics writer John Ostrander in Legends #3 in 1987.
The first version was created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru and debuted in The Brave and the Bold (vol. 1) #25 in 1959.
