Curvy beauties Ashley Graham , Danielle Redman , Inga Eiriksdottir , Julie Henderson , and Marquita Pring appeared in Bust Magazine’s Feb/Mar 2015 issue where they spoke on their model collective, ALDA .
Together these women are changing the face — and body — of the fashion industry.
“Fashion dictates so many things in our lives,” said Julie Henderson, a former professional basketball player. “And little girls grow up thinking that is what beauty is. They see the magazines and think, ‘Ok. Skinny, blonde,’ whatever it is. And what ALDA does is say, ‘LISTEN, every woman is beautiful.'”
“Everybody is beautiful and everybody is different,” Iowa native Danielle Redman adds. “Some people are meant to be a size negative zero and some people are meant to be a size 16.”
Ashley Graham continued: “I’ve been called a plus-size model for 15 years. I don’t have any shame in it; I really don’t care. If you want to call me plus, that’s fine, but at the end of the day I know I’m a model. My name is Ashley Graham and I’m a model.”
Lensed by Danielle St. Laurent , the models sweat it out in sportswear, swimwear and underwear by Torrid, H&M, American Apparel , and more selected by stylist Laura Michael .
Hair for the shoot is styled by Amy Farid , with makeup Lisa Aharon .
