Ciara Renée to Play Hawkgirl in CW’s Arrow/Flash Spin-Off Series

Ciara Renée cast as Hawkgirl in CW Spinoff

Stage actress Ciara Renée , who appeared on Broadway in Pippin and Big Fish , will take the lead role in the CW’s forthcoming Arrow / The Flash spin-off series.

She’ll play Kendra Saunders aka Hawkgirl , a young woman who has been repeatedly reincarnated over the centuries.

“When provoked, her ancient warrior persona manifests itself, along with wings that grow out of her back, earning her the moniker Hawkgirl.”

From Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim , the yet-to-be-titled series will star characters from both Arrow and The Flash .

So far the cast includes Brandon Routh (as Ray/The Atom) and Caity Lotz (formerly Sara/Canary), as well as The Flash‘ s Wentworth Mille r (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold) and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein aka half of Firestorm).

Hawkgirl was created for DC Comics by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville , and first appeared in Flash Comics #1 (Jan. 1940) as Shiera Sanders.

New Hawkgirl Kendra Sanders was introduced in 1999. She is the granddaughter of Speed Saunders, the Golden Age Hawkgirl/Shiera Sanders Hall’s cousin.
