“Pharrell Williams has made a style statement ever since he came on the music scene,” CFDA CEO Steven Kolb says in an exclusive statement. “His interest in fashion is no secret to anyone and we couldn’t think of a better person to honor with this award. Joan Smalls was able to perfectly embody Pharrell’s style for the Journal.”
“We wanted to do something unexpected that captured the essence of Pharrell’s iconic style—but meshed with the attitude of the fashion world,” adds project creative director, Trey Laird. “Joan was the perfect person to bring this idea to life.”
CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) honored Rihanna with the Fashion Icon award in 2014.
The 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place on Monday, June 1 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City.
