A poster and DVD cover of “Set It Off Again,” an alleged sequel to the 1996 F. Gary Gray -directed film, has been circulating around the net this week and exciting fans.

Featuring original cast member Jada Pinkett-Smith , the poster seems to reveal that actresses Zoe Saldana , Taraji P. Henson , and Teyana Taylor would be starring in the follow-up, but I’m sorry to report this poster is not real.

It’s actually a design mock-up by a graphic artist, who goes by the name Unik Visionz GFX and just wanted to showcase his abilities.

Whoever spread this should probably keep a few things in mind: there would likely be an official press release on the casting and distribution type first and the poster will more than likely never be released next to a DVD cover and against a wooden display background (commonly used by designers to show work).

As for whether a sequel is at all in the works, NY Times ‘ movie database does show that Queen Latifah , who starred in the original, was set to produce Set It Off 2 (or Set it Off II ) at some point, though there is no way to tell when the information was last updated.

When BlackFilm.com talked with Gray in 2011, he revealed that the studio, New Line Cinema , was excited to begin working on a sequel after the film’s reception, but Jada refused.

The 90s action-crime-thriller, which also starred Vivica A. Fox , Kimberly Elise , and Blair Underwood , made $11,807,451 in its opening weekend (November 10, 1996). It has grossed $41,590,886 worldwide. Enjoy the blast from the past below.
