In May, Netflix will add four new titles we’re excited about: Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is by My Side (2013), Anita Hill documentary Anita (2013), Oscar Grant film Fruitvale Station (2013), and French coming-of-age drama Girlhood (2014).
Jimi: All Is by My Side

Synopsis: In 1966, an unknown guitarist named James Hendrix (André Benjamin) leaves New York for London, changes his name to Jimi and begins to make his mark in the world of rock music.

Fruitvale Station (2013)

Synopsis: Though he once spent time in San Quentin, 22-year-old black man Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan) is now trying hard to live a clean life and support his girlfriend (Melonie Diaz) and young daughter (Ariana Neal). Flashbacks reveal the last day in Oscar’s life, in which he accompanied his family and friends to San Francisco to watch fireworks on New Year’s Eve, and, on the way back home, became swept up in an altercation with police that ended in tragedy.

Girlhood (2014) [originally titled “Bande de filles”]

Synopsis: Marieme (Karidja Touré) joins an all-girl gang in the projects of Paris and is slowly turned out of her shell by her three sassy neighbors. As she falls further under their bravado and volatile energy, she begins making brave and foolish choices.
