This Week’s Top 5 in Album Sales: Miley, Panic!, Drake, Pusha T, Timberlake

The numbers are in and I have some great news for all of my fellow Smilers out there!

Just as predicted last week, Miley Cyrus’ fourth studio album Bangerz has managed to debut at the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart with sales of 270,000 copies sold in its first week.

Counting her albums as “Hannah Montana,” this serves as the singer’s fifth #1 record. She first debuted at #1 with Hannah Montana in 2006, with sales of 281,000 copies in its first week.

One year later, her half soundtrack/half debut album Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus sold 326,000, selling faster in its first week than the previous soundtrack.

In 2008, her second studio album (but to most people, as it wasn’t associated with the Hannah Montana brand) Breakout served as her third #1 album with sales of 371,000 copies in its debut week, becoming the fourth-highest sales week of 2008 for a female artist.

Miley’s fourth set to reach #1 was the 2009 soundtrack to the Hannah Montana Movie , however, it didn’t debut there.

It started out at #2 with 139,000 copies and reached the #1 spot during its fourth week with 133,000 copies, a decline of 32% after selling 192,000 its previous week.

Debuting at #2 this week is Panic! at the Disco ‘s Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die with 84,000 copies. It matches the band’s highest selling set, 2008′s Pretty. Odd. , which debuted at peaked at #2.

At #3 is Drake ‘s previous #1 selling album Nothing Was the Same , with sales of 83,000 copies.

While Pusha T ‘s My Name Is My Name makes it way into the #4 spot in its first week with sales of 75,000 copies.

Rounding out the Top 5 is Justin Timberlake ‘s The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2) with 70,000 copies. It serves as the largest second-week percentage decline for a #1 debuting album since Kanye West ‘s Yeezus fell by 80.26% back in late June.

At #6 this week is Lorde ‘s Pure Heroine with 63,000 copies, while Glee ‘s soundtrack to The Quarterback , which dealt with the death of the character Finn Hudson and doubled as a tribute to the late actor who played him, sold 47,000 copies, earning it at a spot at #7.

Rounding out the Top 10 we have Korn’ s The Paradigm Shift at #8 with 46,000 while The Voice ‘s season three winner, Cassadee Pope , starts at #9 with her first major-label album, Frame by Frame selling 43,000 copies.

Mayday Parade lands its first top 10 album, Monsters in the Closet , at the #10 position with 30,000. It’s the best sales week yet for the act, which had previously sold no more than 27,000 in a week, when 2011′s self-titled album debuted and peaked at #12.
