Mo McRae (Murder in the First) has been cast in Empire‘s upcoming season two as a love interest for Becky (Gabourey Sidibe), assistant to Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) at Empire Entertainment.

His character, J-Poppa — a handsome, easygoing guy — will appear in three episodes of the hit FOX series.

J-Poppa will also develop a strong connection with Lucious’ eldest son Andre (Trai Byers).

Earlier this year, Gabby’s Becky character was promoted to season regular along with Cookie’s (Taraji P. Henson) assistant, Porsha (Ta’Rhonda Jones).

McRae has previously worked with co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong in their 2013 film The Butler.

He was recently cast as Stokely Carmichael in HBO’s Lyndon B. Johnson biopic All The Way, starring Bryan Cranston.

Empire returns with an extended, two-part second season on Wednesday, September 23, at 9pm on FOX.
