Mo McRae ( Murder in the First ) has been cast in Empire ‘s upcoming season two as a love interest for Becky ( Gabourey Sidibe ), assistant to Lucious Lyon ( Terrence Howard ) at Empire Entertainment.
His character, J-Poppa — a handsome, easygoing guy — will appear in three episodes of the hit FOX series.
J-Poppa will also develop a strong connection with Lucious’ eldest son Andre ( Trai Byers ).
Earlier this year, Gabby’s Becky character was promoted to season regular along with Cookie’s ( Taraji P. Henson ) assistant, Porsha ( Ta’Rhonda Jones ).
McRae has previously worked with co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong in their 2013 film The Butler .
He was recently cast as Stokely Carmichael in HBO’s Lyndon B. Johnson biopic All The Way , starring Bryan Cranston .
Empire returns with an extended, two-part second season on Wednesday, September 23, at 9pm on FOX.
