Grammy award winning singer and actress Macy Gray , who has been laying low for almost 10 years, is the latest star to join the upcoming Lee Daniels project, Empire .

A few weeks ago it was announced that Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson were tapped to play Lucious and Cookie Lyon respectively, for the hip-hop and music industry-inspired show, which is scheduled to appear on Fox.

While Taraji and Terrence will serve as lead stars, Macy will recur as Tasha, a woman having an affair with the much-younger Hakeem Lyon, over whom she exercises considerable influence and control.

Also appearing in the series as recurring and possibly main characters are Gabourey Sidibe, Jussie Smollett, Malik Yoba, Kaitlin Doubleday, Trai Byers, Grace Gealey and Tasha Smith .

Original and current music will be featured within the drama, with the super talented and basically iconic Timbaland serving as the main songwriter and producer for the series.

Danny Strong , who penned the script for The Butler , which was produced and directed by Daniels, will write Empire. Lee will make his TV directing debut with the project.

From 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine, Brian Grazer will executive produce alongside Daniels, Strong and Francie Calfo . Thoughts?
