Watch: New Trailer for Forest Whitaker-Produced High School Comedy ‘DOPE’

A second trailer has been released for critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival, DOPE (2015), out June 19, 2015 in U.S. theaters.

The comedy-drama follows Malcolm ( Shameik Moore ), a high school geek who is carefully navigating life in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Inglewood, California while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT.

A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

Written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa ( The Wood / Brown Sugar ), DOPE also stars Tony Revolori ( The Grand Budapest Hotel ) , Kiersey Clemons ( Transparent ) , Blake Anderson ( Workaholics ) , Zoë Kravitz ( Mad Max: Fury Road ) , A$AP Rocky , Tyga , Keith Stanfield ( Selma ) , Casey Veggies , Vince Staples , Chanel Iman and Rick Fox ( Hit the Floor ).

The film was produced by Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi ( Fruitvale Station ) under Whitaker’s Significant Productions company and JuntoBox Films.

It was executive produced by Pharrell Williams , Michael Y. Chow , David Lonner , and Famuyiwa, and co-executive produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs .

Debuting in the U.S. Dramatic Competition category at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival , DOPE has been selected to close the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and will open the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) in New York City.

Open Road Films is distributing DOPE in the U.S. while Sony Pictures will distribute the film internationally.
