Keith Olbermann: “Iron Fist of NFL Has Just Been Used Against Ray Rice’s Wife”

On Thursday, the NFL suspended Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for first two games of the season following an off-season altercation with then-fiancée Janay Palmer . The incident allegedly knocked her unconscious in a casino elevator.

Keith Olbermann immediately expressed his with the league’s leniency. In a segment titled “Insufficient Punishment,” he reminded us of the NFL taking tougher action with Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth , who received a five-game suspension for stomping on Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode ‘s head during a game in 2006.

Olbermann also went into a full examination of the sexism and dehumanization of women in professional sports (and politics).

“The message to the women who the league claims constitute 50 percent of its fan base is simple: The NFL wants your money. It will do nothing else for you,” he stated. “It will tolerate those who abuse you verbally and those who abuse you physically.”
