ABC and Dick Clark Productions have announced that the 2014 Billboard Music Awards are set to return to ABC and will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18th.
Currently there are little details surrounding the show, but within the next few weeks (most likely starting in January) information will slowly be unveiled.
Last year’s event, which I missed due to a personal problem, was broadcasted for three hours and gave the network its highest ratings for the BBMAs in 12 years, with a viewing audience of 9.47 million. It was also the most tweeted top social program with over 4.3 million tweets.
Prince earned the Icon Award for his career which includes 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles, and even performed a medley of his classic “Let’s Go Crazy,” Edgar Winter’s instrumental “Frankenstein” and “Fix Ur Life Up.”
Madonna, who could be considered as an Icon in her own right, earned the award for Top Touring Artist and thanked her fans in her acceptance speech saying: “A showgirl needs her fans.”
Other highlights featured Taylor Swift who took home eight awards, while Gotye won four awards for his summer anthem “Somebody That I Used To Know/”
Rihanna also took home four awards including Radio Songs Artist. The night also featured 16 performances including Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Miguel. Thoughts?
