Out of Buraka Som Sistema‘s five members, Blaya (Karla Rodrigues) stands out for obvious reasons: she hangs tough with the boys; she’s not afraid of hair dye or tattoos; she’s incredibly sexy; and when she hits the stage, she dominates the crowd’s attention.
As the Portuguese music group’s sole female emcee and endlessly energetic dancer, most of us became familiar with her shortly after their 2008 studio debut Black Diamond.
Now the Brazilian-born, Portuguese star is testing the waters as a solo artist, releasing her self-titled EP via Optimus Discos.
Her debut single, titled “Superfresh” is a booty bass heavy track that incorporates American hip-hop, Euro synths and baile funk right out of her hometown. Take a listen below.

A second, more mellow song appears on the EP, titled “Eu Quero Mais” (I Want More), where we hear Blaya’s sentimental side over a dreamy R&B beat. Download both tracks at optimusdiscos.pt.
In other Blaya news, she is performing at the Optimus Alive Festival 2013 on July 14 in Lisbon, Portugal. Get more details at optimusalive.com.
Oh, and watch her bust some kuduro moves to “Zenze” by DJ Malvado below.
