2012 MTV VMA Nominations: Drake & Rihanna Lead

Drake and his good friend (can we call her that?) Rihanna lead this year’s MTV Video Music Awards nomination lists! They each pulled a total of 5 nods including Video of the Year for We Found Love and Take Care .”

Rihanna ‘s “We Found Love” also received nominations for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video , while Where Have You Been was nominated for Best Choreography and Best Visual Effects . Drake’s HYFR video is nominated for Best Hip Hop video, while the Rihanna- featured “Take Care” receives its other nominations in Best Male Video , Best Art Direction , and Best Cinematography.

Katy Perry came in second place with a total of four nods including Video of the Year for “Wide Awake,” while Beyoncé , Frank Ocean , M.I.A. , Jay-Z and Kanye (The Throne) , and Coldplay come in third place with three nods each.

The 2012 VMAs will air live on September 6th (first time I’ve ever known them to do it on a Thursday instead of a Sunday) at 8 PM EST (7 CST) from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Take a look at the full list of nominations below:
