Watch: Teaser for Idris Elba’s African War Drama ‘Beasts of No Nation’

Im a mew teaser, Netflix is giving us a first real look at its African war drama, Beasts of No Nation , starring Idris Elba ( Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom ) (see above).

The film is set for a worldwide premiere on the streaming service on October 16, 2015, when there will also be a limited theatrical release in independent theaters via Bleecker Street.

Directed and written by Cary Fukunaga ( Sin Nombre ), Beasts of No Nation is based on the bestselling 2006 novel of the same name by Uzodinma Iweala .

The story follows Agu (played by newcomer Abraham Attah ), a boy who is forced to join a group of soldiers after his family is murdered during the civil war of a West African country.

The film’s cast also includes Ama K. Abebrese and Opeyemi Fagbohungbe .

Fukunaga produced the feature along with Amy Kaufman, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Riva Marker and Dan Crown under Participant Media and Red Crown.

Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King for Participant, documentary filmmaker Bill Benenson , and Laura Bickford executive produced.

Netflix acquired the film’s rights for $12 million earlier this year, causing major theater chains to announce a boycott.
