This weekend, Grammy nominated soul crooner Bilal stopped by the Melissa Harris-Perry Show for a beautiful live performance of “I Don’t Care” with guitarist Randy Runyon.
He also spoke on how the current social climate influenced his new album, In Another Life, which debuted on June 30, 2015 via Purpose Music Group and Entertainment One U.S.
“One of the reasons why I named the album ‘In Another Life’ was is because I was really trying to get into a lot of different perspectives and write from a lot of different points of view,” he explained. “So my major thing, what I would do is read the paper before I came into the studio.”
He also commented on the state of popular music: “America, especially Black music, it really pushes the culture of the whole world. So I think it should be as diverse as possible, especially as far as the sound.” Watch below.
