‘Selma’ Sets VOD & DVD/ Blu-Ray Release Dates

Ava DuVernay ‘s acclaimed civil rights drama Selma (2014) is set to arrive on VOD April 21, 2015, followed by a DVD/Blu-Ray release on May 5, 2015 ( Amazon / iTunes ).

Written by Paul Webb and produced by Cloud Eight Films, Harpo Films, and Plan B Entertainment, Selma chronicles the legendary Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel (played by Common ), Hosea Williams ( Wendell Pierce ), and Martin Luther King, Jr. ( David Oyelowo ), and John Lewis ( Stephan James ) in 1965.

The cast also includes Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King , Tim Roth as George Wallace , Lorraine Toussaint as Amelia Boynton Robinson , Giovanni Ribisi as Lee C. White , Omar Dorsey as James Orange , Andre Holland as Andrew Young, Niecy Nash as Richie Jean Jackson , Colman Domingo as Ralph Abernathy , Tessa Thompson as Diane Nash , Keith Stanfield as Jimmie Lee Jackson , Alessandro Nivola as John Doar , Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Fred Gray , Tom Wilkinson as Lyndon B. Johnson , and Oprah Winfrey as Annie Lee Cooper .

Selma (2014)

Premiering at the American Film Institute Festival on November 11, 2014, Selma began a limited U.S. release on December 25, 2014, and a nationwide theatrical release on January 9, 2015 via Paramount. It was released on February 6, 2015 in the UK by Pathé.

The film had four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, and Best Actor, and won for Best Original Song . It was also nominated for Best Picture and won Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards.

The Blu-Ray edition features an in-depth exploration of the making of the film, historical newsreels, a video for the film Oscar-winning song “Glory” by Common and John Legend, commentary by director Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo, a photo gallery and more.
