Alicia also shared some behind the scenes photos on her website , along with her experience on the Harper’s set. Check out what she had to say and enjoy the photos below.

After all this time, I’m finally getting comfortable in my own skin. I remember my first photo shoot. It was possibly the most awkward experience of my life! There I was, fresh off of the streets of NYC walking into a place buzzing with public relations people and photographer assistants, camera man assistants, magazine editors, fashion stylists with their assistants and label reps. It was full of all these people I’d never met and probably would never know!

By the time all of the preparation was finished, I stood there with everyone looking at me expecting me to “perform well” or hoping I would give them “the shot” and I remember this photographer that just kept trying to make me pull things lower, or open things wider, or pull it up higher and I was sooooo confused!

They told me I looked good, but I just felt like a mess and totally not myself.

Well, I will never forget that photo shoot because it made me realize that if you are uncomfortable, without a doubt, you look it and the camera catches all of that. And if you don’t like something in your gut, it’s best to just speak up about it and try to find a solution because when it’s done you can’t go back.

Fast forward to this Harper’s Bazaar shoot.

I was light years away from that girl at her first shoot who had no idea how to stand, or which way to look, or what she likes, or how to speak up for herself.

I still felt a tinge of shyness with all of the people that you don’t know buzzing around doing their jobs but I felt calm, I felt the excitement, and I felt like I could be myself and have some fun with my city as a backdrop.

You sure do learn who you are in time.

After that first experience I used to think I’d never like a photo shoot…

But I LOVED this one!!

If things don’t go exactly right, know that you learned from it and next time will be better.

Love and blessings.

Talk soon,

AK
