What a weekend… Following nationwide protests and high tension surrounding the George Zimmerman trial, BET will give us a behind-the-scenes look at Fruitvale Station, airing Fruitvale Station: The Story of Oscar Grant tonight.
The half-hour long making-of special coincides with the harrowing film’s premiere on July 12 to audiences in California and New York City, a larger roll out on July 19 (check theater listings), and its national July 26 debut.
The film tells the real-life story of Oscar Grant, the 22-year-old young man shot and killed by a police officer in 2009, played by rising star Michael B. Jordan.
The emotional feature has garnered awards, stellar reviews from critics and movie-goers, and also sold out several showings on opening weekend.
There's a film out called FRUITVALE STATION (@FruitvaleMovie). Sometimes, art is a window into our reality. This movie is going to be HUGE.

The BET special will reveal everything from the film’s production to its victories at Sundance and Cannes.
“The Weinstein Company is proud to collaborate with BET who has championed this film from its very beginning starting with the Sundance Film Festival. BET recognized early on the importance of director Ryan Coogler’s feature debut film and the significance of Oscar Grant’s story. They have shown tremendous support for the film including – the BET Experience screening in late June, featuring the film and its star Michael B. Jordan at the BET Awards earlier this month, partnering with TWC on the film’s New York premiere on July 8th, and online features on BET.com.”
Be sure to tune in tonight, July 15, 2013 at 7:30pm ET/PT. And if you miss it, catch the re-airing on CENTRIC on Friday, July 19 at 10pm. ET/PT.
