The wait is over… well kind of. Auntie Mariah (or Mother Lamb as others like to call her) has finally unveiled the release date of her long-delayed 14th studio album.
While still currently untitled, it is set to be released on July 23, 2013 through Island Def Jam. This also serves as the same date that Selena Gomez will release her debut solo studio album Stars Dance.
Last year, “Triumphant (Get Em),” featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill, was announced as the album’s lead single, but only served as a buzz single due to its poor impact.
It failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and only managed to peak at #46 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
The album’s official lead single “#Beautiful,” featuring Miguel, has fared much better. This week, the song has managed to move to the #17 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, after debuting at #24 last week.
The album will follow Mariah’s 2009 effort Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which has managed to sell a total of 546,000 copies to date.
Memoirs spawned five singles: “Obsessed,” which served as the lead single, peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, followed by “I Want to Know What Love Is” and “H.A.T.E.U.,” both which failed to chart or make an impact in the United States.
“Up Out My Face,” featuring Nicki Minaj, was to serve as the lead single from Angels Advocate, a planned a remix album, which got canceled, with the Ne-Yo assisted “Angels Cry” serving as the second single. Thoughts?
