Blaque & Shinee Exhibit, May 2013

Konstance Patton and Barron Claiborne showcase artwork from their Blaque & Shinee exhibit at Giacobetti Paul Gallery in Dumbo.

Presented by Umbrage Gallery and curated by Luise Kaunert , the exhibit displays the Brooklyn-based artists’ exploration of archetypes and icons of beauty in an ongoing investigation of art as personal fiction.

Patton’s works include paintings, ink and stencil drawings, sculptures and mixed media works, constructed with organic materials like wax, wood, or fabric in respect to ancient African and indigenous traditions.

Claiborne’s black and white polaroids focus on a poetic yet provocative depiction of the female figure staged as intrepid saints or ominous goddesses.
