I have some sad and disappointing news for KiD CuDi and G.O.O.D. Music supporters out there.
Yesterday it was announced that the rapper is no longer a part of the label which was created by Kanye West in 2004.
CuDi joined the label in 2008 after Kanye West heard his work from Plain Pat, a songwriter and record producer. Take a look at what he said below:
“I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music. [Kanye and I] were talking on the phone the other day and these are things I’ve been wanting to talk to him about me starting my own direction and he got it because you know, he’s trying to start his new path and try new things as an artist and he was just like, ‘Man, I feel you as an artist. It’s cool, whatever.’ “This is just from a business standpoint. There’s no beef. There’s no problems with anybody on the label. It’s all love.”
He stated that the decision was actually made six months ago, but no one else on the label (or fans) knew about it until now.
He also said that the door is still open for collaborations with the rest of the G.O.O.D. Music crew. He consulted with Kanye’s manager Don C and Jay-Z before approaching ‘Ye. Take a look at what he had to say about that below:
“I knew where I wanted to go and then it was like trying to figure out what the right decision would be, how to talk to him about it. I went through a process where I talked to Don C and then I went and talked to Jay-Z and got their opinions about how to approach him about things that I wanted to talk to him about. And everybody gave me the blessing.”
“I wanna focus on Wicked Awesome, I wanna focus on [King] Chip, and that’s it. I don’t want to have a full label of artists. I just wanna work on Chip and keep my sound going on the Cudi train.”
Cudi’s third studio album, and his first since parting ways with the label, Indicud, is set to be released on April 23, 2013..
The album’s lead single “Just What I Am,” was released on October 2, 2012, and reached #17 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #13 on the Rap songs chart. A second single, “Immortal,” was released on March 14, 2013. Thoughts?
