ECBACC's Black Comics Convention, May 18, 2013

The 12th Annual Black Comics Convention , which kicks off on May 18th in Philadelphia, will focus solely on marginalized superheroes of the African diaspora, such as Miles Morales ( Spider-Man ), Black Panther , Mercury Miranda , Static Shock , and Storm .

Preceded by a reception the day before, May 17th, the event will feature panel discussions, a cosplay contest — Africoz , and a vendor marketplace .

During the reception, the Glyph Comics Awards will be presented to creators of graphic novels, comic strips, and comic books made either by, for, or about people of color.

The convention will also include an event titled Synergy , where aspiring writers can share excerpts from their latest short story, novel or script, and will have a chance network and get feedback.

The deadline for Synergy submissions is Monday, April 29, 2013.
