MTV’s 2013 Video Music Awards Head to Brooklyn

2013 MTV VMAs, Brooklyn

This year, the 30th anniversary of the MTV Video Music Awards , or simply the VMA’s, is set to be held in Brooklyn, New York, the hometown of rappers Jay-Z and Biggie .

The network will broadcast the show live from the Barclays Center on Sunday, August 25. Take a look at what Stephen Friedman, President of MTV, had to say below:

“From a vibrant musical scene for up and coming artists to epic concerts by today’s biggest stars and the triumphant return of pro sports to the borough after nearly 60 years, Brooklyn has re-emerged as a cultural capitol where music, sports and entertainment history is made every day. We can’t wait to help write the next chapter on August 25th, when one of the biggest nights in music happens in Brooklyn…for the very first time.”

The show has been held in seven different venues for the past nine years, with the last three shows being held in Los Angeles, one at the Staples Center and two at the Nokia Theater. When it was held in New York back in 2009, it was held at the Radio City Music Hall, which has hosted the awards show 11 times, and the Metropolitan Opera House, which was host twice.

While there are currently no announcements to who we can expect to see hitting the stage and presenting at the event this year, we will definitely keep you posted as soon as that information is released!
