Just as I was wondering, “where the hell have the Yeah Yeah Yeahs been?” the NYC-based post-alternative rock trio gives us a long-anticipated brand new single, Sacrilege.”

The track will appear on the upcoming fourth studio album that band lead Karen O dropped hints on in 2011 titled, Mosquito. Set to release on April 16th, the album follows YYY’s 2009 release, It’s Blitz!.

Channeling their old lo-fi, tinny sound and flaunting Karen’s eerie howl, “Sacrilege” ends on the emergence of a powerful 24-piece gospel choir chanting in a capella, “Sacrilege, sacrilege, sacrilege, you say!” Listen below.

Enlisting production from TV on the Radio‘s Dave Sitek, Nick Launay, and LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy, Karen says the album was made with “a shitty drum machine, a shitty sampled keyboard, tons of delay on the vocals.”

If “Sacrilege” is a sign of what to expect for April 16th, Spring 2013′s musical landscape is shaping up to be impressive. The new era for YYY also brings a blonde Karen O, who shocked us with a new doo in this teaser below:
