As the first feature-length film from 26-year-old USC School of Cinematic Arts graduate, Ryan Coogler, Fruitvale is based on the real-life story of Oscar Grant, a young man who was tragically shot to death at an Oakland BART station in 2009 by police.

Produced by actor Forest Whitaker, the movie stars Michael B. Jordan (Friday Night Lights/Parenthood), Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer (The Help), and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill).
