As Rihanna ingeniously embarks on her 777 tour to promote Unapologetic, the accompanying digital booklet gives us artistic and candid visuals for the Bajan pop star’s seventh studio album, which dropped worldwide today.
Michael Muller and Melissa T. Forde capture Ri both posing and casually enjoying a meal in a yellow skull cropped t-shirt and underwear, a vibrant fitted cap, and a studded leather jacket picked by stylist Mel Ottenberg. Illustration is provided by Mario Hugo.
With creative direction by Rihanna herself and Ciarra Pardo, the images suit the feel of Unapologetic, which features a range of emotions — from high, happy and cocky to somber, self-reflective, and frustrated. She describes the album as “mid-tempo but mellow. It’s a stoner’s album kind of.”
Fusing pop, R&B, dance, hip-hop, trap and heavy dubstep influences, Unaplogetic seems to be garnering praise from fans and critics alike (I’ve had it on repeat since 1am).
Guest appearances include Eminem (“Numb”), Future (“Loveeeee Song”), Mikky Ekko (“Stay”) and Chris Brown (“Nobody’s Business”), with additional production by Sia, David Guetta, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, and Ester Dean — to name a few.
