Okay, you guys know I love pop music, Oreos, Big Sean, and Billboard — and while all of those help shape me into the person I am today — there are two other things that I have yet to mention: Disney and The Wizard of Oz.
Disney helped shaped me into being colorful and full of life, and The Wizard of Oz made me happy when I was sad, had a bad day, or just wanted something to sing along to.
Now, more than 110 years after L. Frank Baum‘s novel, and over 70 years since the mentioned film above, a story featuring the origin of The Wizard will be released next year. I first caught wind of the news in the summer, and today I am happy to share the first official trailer with you guys.
Like the original Judy Garland-starring film, the movie starts in black and white during scenes in Kansas, and then takes on fantastical, colorful visuals once the protagonist is swept to the fantasy land of Oz.
While Dorothy is nowhere to be found (I secretly hope she makes a cameo at the end of the movie or gets some type of reference), familiar images such as the hot air balloon, flying monkeys, Emerald City, and wait for it — the yellow brick road, will indeed be featured!
Is saying how excited I am for this film really needed? I hope it’s quite obvious and the little girl I used to think I was is having a field day, and you better not stop her.
Along with myself, a few others have found similarities to the film and 2010’s Alice in Wonderland and this is true. The design, use of colors, the official poster, and visual effects all play a part in that and Disney hopes that the film will replicate the commercial performance of Tim Burton‘s Alice, which was also released in March (the 5th to be exact).
