Vogue Italia explores various natural textures of hair for this lovely series of photographs for a feature entitled, “Afro Look,” starring models Yordanos T., Natasia, Grace Bol, Bettine MCabe, and Hollis Wakeema.
Compelled to show a more diverse and up-to-date depiction of today’s afro, contributing editor Yomi Abiola chose models of all colors for a simply gorgeous photo shoot by Jason Eric Hardwick.

“In order to create a new vision of the afro hairstyle,” said Yomi, “the approach to these photographs was different. We did not use references or storyboards. The inspiration came from the models…”
She mentioned that while searching for models for the shoot, many NYC-based modeling agencies were shaken by the hair-type request and didn’t know how to respond. “It occurred to me that perhaps in search of a kind of hair, I should have used the term ‘natural hair’ instead of ‘African’…”
The diverse beauties were styled by Darlene and Lizzy Okpo, with hair by Taichi Saito.
