Though the album came out over 10 years ago, Linkin Park has a great reason to celebrate at the moment, as the alternative metal band’s debt studio album Hybrid Theory has managed to finally hit the 10 million mark. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album sold an additional 3,000 this week, bringing its to-date total in the U.S. to just over 10 million.
The album has also become the 20th (yes there are only 20 albums that have those bragging rights in the United States) album to sell 10 million since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
Metallica’s self titled 1991 release currently holds the #1 spot as the highest selling album in the United States with a total of 15.8 million. Shania Twain‘s third studio album Come On Over, which was released in 1997, serves as the second highest selling album with a total of 15.5 million, while Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill comes in third with 14.8 million.
Hybrid Theory also serves as 1 of the 4 albums that did not make it to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 Chart. The album 1st debuted on the chart on on October 24, 2000 at #16 before being stalled at #2.
