Frank Ocean & Sexuality: What’s Keeping it More Real Than Being Your True Self?

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean

First off, I would like to commend anyone who comes to the point of accepting that they are indeed apart of the LGBT community. We all know that not only is it an internal struggle, but it’s a fight with the rest of the world — especially those who don’t understand.

For those of you who didn’t know, R&B singer and Odd Future member Frank Ocean admitted to being bisexual just before the release of his debut album, Channel Orange. Though some may say bisexuality “isn’t as bad as being gay,” it is still something that we don’t typically see being accepted in the worlds of R&B and hip-hop.

I’m very proud of Frank for sharing who he really is to the music industry and his fans. Homosexuality has always been a taboo subject, and therefore I’m surprised that most of the comments and thoughts about his coming out have been quite positive.

Jay-Z recently stated that he supports the LGBT community, as did newcomer A$AP Rocky, whois great friends with gay shoe designer Jeremy Scott.

It is now common for pop or rock musicians, actors, and TV personalities to come out of the closet and people are FINALLY accepting the fact that the LGBT community are people too, and we all live under the same sun.

I applaud Frank Ocean‘s honesty in sharing his true self with the world. I hope this gives other mainstream artists who are a part of our community the strength, courage and inspiration to come out as well.

What’s keeping it more real than being your true self?
