Acclaimed R&B singer-songwriter Amel Larrieux is set to perform at Weeksville Heritage Center‘s annual Garden Party and Emancipation Day celebration in Brooklyn on July 7th.
The one of a kind day commemorates the end of slavery in New York State and provides an alternative independence day, along with another reason to party in BK.
This year’s Emancipation Day focuses on the liberation of women and includes a series of events including a film screening, moderated discussion, dance performance, concert, and dance party.
Originally an important 19th century free black community in Brooklyn, the Weeksville Heritage Center is a historic site where residents once established schools, churches and benevolent associations and were active in the abolitionist movement.
The free event will bring music, food, and history together as Amel‘s will take the stage following performances by dance collective Run Mary Run and DJ Reborn.
