Childish Gambino’s “Eat Your Vegetables” Goes Too Far with “Trayvon” Lyric
Comedian and alternative rapper Childish Gambino recently unleashed some new lyrical fire over a Donkey Kong-sampling track entitled, “Eat Your Vegetables.”
Produced by D-Money (just guessing by how his name is annoyingly repeated throughout the fucking song), the track will appear on Gambino‘s upcoming project, according to trillerthanmost.
Great punchlines and an awesome tribute to Donkey Kong‘s water level aside (we all got stuck in there, right?), Glover couldn’t help but add “I die for my hood, Trayyyvvon!”
With the murdered teen’s killer still free and his family fresh in mourning, jokes about death over hoodies come in poor taste.
And don’t try to tell me it’s merely a commentary on the absurd claims that one should expect to be murdered or harrassed if they are Black and wearing a hoodie. Stop it.
In any case, I suppose it’s no different than Glover‘s other inappropriate lyrics that seem to be his specialty, e.g: “something crazy and Asian, Virginia Tech!” on Camp‘s “Backpackers.”
I almost thought it was impossible to be shocked or even remotely offended by what comes out of Donald Glover‘s mouth… until now. If you can ignore Glover‘s tastelessness and insensitivity, you’ll get to funnier lines that poke fun at the “new” J. Cole and Diggy Simmons beef: “nobody cares like it’s J. Cole, Diggy.”
