Lil Wayne, Adele, Rihanna, & Gaga Lead Billboard Awards 2012
Adele, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne lead the finalists for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, with Adele taking the #1 spot with a total of 18 nominations including Top Female Artist, Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist. LMFAO comes in at second place with 17 categories, and will go head to head in the Top 100 Artist category, which also includes Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Bruno Mars.
Rihanna, who served as last year’s #1 spot holder slips into the #3 spot this year with a total of 13 nods, while Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga tie for the #4 spot with 10.
They will compete with Adele, Rihanna and Katy Perry for the Top Artist category. Wiz Khalifa, Foster The People, and Scotty McCreery have landed spots in the Top New Artist category this year.
The awards will be based on key fan interactions with music, including album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring as well as streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, Youtube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music.
The measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound and will be based on the reporting period of March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, including R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative.
