Child star and businesswoman Ashley Olsen has been making headlines over the past day-and-a-half for stating that she has officially quit acting. The 25-year-old billionaire, who covers a separate dual issue of ELLE UK with her sister Mary-Kate, had this to say to the magazine:
“It was time to step behind the process, it doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood. I like the way it operates, I like the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress.”
“I don’t have to be a pretty face. I’ve done that, but now it’s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don’t like to be the center of attention anymore.”
Mary-Kate, on the other hand, began doing roles without her sister back in 2006, appearing in Factory Girl. She is currently filming Story of a Girl, which also stars Kevin Bacon.
Read what Mary-Kate had to say to the magazine about other celebrities starting fashion lines:
“Of course we knew about the trend of celebrities as designers, but we’d done that already when we were much younger. I don’t understand the new idea of designers as celebrities either. To me, the Phoebe Philo kind of modesty is the way to go. We love beautiful things. That’s the only driving impulse.”
The pair’s fashion empire consists of several clothing and accessory collections, such as the higher-end Elizabeth and James and The Row as well as Olsenboye for JC Penney. They are often seen at major fashion events showcasing their chic, personal styles. They were also named Best Dressed Siblings of 2011 in Vogue Magazine.
Although I’m not happy about Ashley’s choice to quit acting, I’m not surprised either. I noticed that after New York Minute, she just didn’t seem to be into it anymore, so I’ve just been expecting to hear her say it.
I love these girls and I’m supportive of them no matter if one chooses to act, or if one decides to open an ice cream parlor. They can do no wrong for me!
