Maroon 5 Promo Shot 2011
I have wonderful news for all of my fellow Maroon 5 (or simply Adam Levine) fans out there! The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their upcoming 4th studio album, Overexposed, which is set to be released on June 26th. According to Adam, the album is said to be “one of ur most diverse and poppiest albums yet,” while guitarist James Valentine had this to say:
“‘Moves Like Jagger’ [from 2010's Hands All Over] was the first time we ever worked with an outside writer, so we decided to try it some more on this record. At this point in our career I think it was a good thing to completely mix up our process and it yielded good results, as well as a more collaborative spirit within the band.
We wanted to make something that sounded contemporary with the elements of a lot of early eras of pop music. This is our most ‘pop’ record ever and we weren’t shy about really going for it.”
The album will be executive produced by Max Martin, with Ryan Tedder and Benny Blanco serving as producers on a few of the albums tracks. Pop rapper Wiz Khalifa will be featured on a song called Payphone, as well as contributions from songwriters outside of the band.
I love Maroon 5, and I think that Hands All Over was quite underrated. The album didn’t really hit the 1 million mark in sales until “Moves Like Jagger”was released as a single. I hope that their transistion into pop/dance-pop is well recived by fans and critics alike. Though they are a pop rock band (with blues, r&b, and soul influences) them crossing over into a different pop form may not be as easy as they hope. Thoughts?
