Hey — it’s the Year of the Rabbit! Celebrate Chinese New Years in Sunset Park, NY’s “other” Chinatown, with a parade — local Brooklyn style — free performances, and Brooklyn neighborhood fun. It’s a wonderful thing to do with kids in Brooklyn. This is the one parade in Brooklyn that’s organized by the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association.

When

Sunday, February 6, 2011.

Schedule

11 a.m. to noon: Performances (including by and for children) and speeches, followed by firecrackers

Noon to 1 p.m.: Parade from 50th to 60th Street

Where

50th Street and 8th Avenue in Sunset Park

Subway: D train to 50th Street, walk uphill 4 long blocks to Eighth Avenue

More To Do

Make a day of it! After the festivities, explore this historic neighborhood: Historic Sights to See in Sunset Park. Alternatively, into a Sunset Park Chinese restaurant for dim sum. Or, if you have children in tow, head to the Prospect Park Zoo to see Herbie the giant rabbit.

Best wishes for the Chinese Lunar New Year! To paraphrase UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon, let us wish for “increased prosperity and well-being in the year to come as we continue to work together for global peace and sustainable development.”
